Please read the Supreme Court's orders on Allocation of 2G spectrum,  when it was alleged that auctions could have fetched higher price. This has 2 impact 


1: it led to cancellation of many license and suddenly killed competition and prices started going up.


2: after that 4G &amp; 5G roll out was delayed as the cut off prices were too high,  in case of 4G companies still took the higher prices but by the time of 5G auctions there were no bidders and Government had to change law to allow Allocation without auctions for 5G spectrum.

I guess the main issue here is that some farmers didn’t get the compensation for the land acquisition and high cost of electricity in the contract ( which is fixed for 25 years though ) which in long term might make it beneficial. 

Still if Farmers are not getting compensated properly might be an actual issue and Per unit cost of electricity being higher than average cost today. 

For the bigger picture- we lacking behind out energy requirements and dependence on coal power planted is huge - high time we invest in some nuclear power plants to have secure power in future. We have already been through coal shortage

Why would any business want to set up shop in a state like Bihar given its history?

The only way to get them to invest is by offering discounts, new policies which benefit them. The investment in return will generate revenue for the state, jobs for locals and help small businesses grow in return. Otherwise they will go to Gujarat, Maharashtra, TN, Karnataka or other states where the business environment is already good. Then these same clowns will cry, "all investments go to these states"

So what you're saying is that you're okay with profits being privatized but costs being socialized for multi billionaires?

All the profit that Adani will make from this land will go to his company's coffers, the govt will make a fraction of a fraction from the taxes it collects from the corporate taxes, and most of the government revenue burden will once again fall on the taxpayers either through direct or indirect taxes or both.

Land is one of the most valuable assets at a government's disposal and should be monetized in accordance with the needs of the many, not for the profit of a multi billionaire and a few babus and politicians.

Every state/UT has such scheme for companies where they get subsidized lands so that they can develop and provide value to the society.

Like hospitals, schools etc. Recent case being Apollo hospitals that was in news. Apparently they didn't fulfil their promise of providing free treatment to a certain number of people or whatever.

I am not taking side of Adani but if this was the intention then providing compensation to the original land owners and then developing it has no harm.

The project was awarded under the SHAKTI scheme of the Govt. Details are publicly available. The intent is to set up coal power plants, near the source of coal (Pithead), instead of importing coal. It seems ludicrous that India, with large coal reserves, imports large quantities of coal.  
The Bihar project involves supplying power (by Adani) for 25 years at a fixed price. The price of coal is partly fixed and partly auctioned, so operating efficiency is important. Adani won the tender (there was a tender) by offering the lowest price of power. 

Ironically Adani is a big coal importer, so this project competes with his own imports.  
Equally ironically, Bihar with large coal reserves, has a serious power shortage. (on paper the deficit is low, because per capita usage is low and there is relatively little industrial use).

If the govt of Bihar really thought about its people, then the bridges, roads and schools would have lasted at least a year. They collapsed within months, some within days. Bihar people won't have to go to foreign states just to meet the minimum wage, which the govt is mandated to provide. They wouldn't have to face the SIR issues, which the ECI is supposed to exercise without any problem to the public.

The majority of people, belonging to lower income strata, who use those roads for their daily movement are not even provided with proper rescue facilities. Our eyes are filled with dreams and hopes for a better future, that we are not seeing our present getting bashed by the merchants.

In most cases the price of land never justify the amount jobs created. If government want jobs they can make legal binding agreements with this corporate. Government can also do auctions on the basis of how many jobs the company will create. The power sectors in general not labour intensive it's capital intensive so there will be less amounts of job create so at the end of the day Adani will get the profit and will get nothing.

And what guarantee does Adani provide that they WILL bring that to the state? What are the KPIs they must hit? Will Adani pay full price of the land if they cannot give, say, 10,000 jobs to locals in the next 2 years? Have they pledged that if tax revenue in the state does not increase by x%, they will pay a portion of the cost?

If not, it seems like Adani is getting guaranteed profit but not providing guaranteed benifits.

Double subsidy: The government already invests taxpayer money on roads, electricity, ports, and connectivity. Giving land almost free adds another hidden subsidy.

No guaranteed returns: Big corporates often underdeliver on job promises or automate heavily, meaning the social benefit may not match the land value sacrificed. Less salaries given.

Unfair advantage: Small businesses never get such deals. This skews competition in favor of a few giants. No competition or alternative.

Long-term lock-in: Once land is allotted, it’s gone for decades. If the project fails, the state loses both land value and development opportunities.

 In short, cheap land allotment isn’t development, it’s asset transfer from the public to private players, while the state still bears infrastructure costs.

The it companies are still paying 10 years back salary to freshers when the rates have almost doubled.  They use ways to avoid paying money, exploit labour and resources

Also there are some arguments that land acquisition hadn't been done in much favour of people,.

and don’t these subsidies come with a fail-safe where if the company doesn’t produce the expected profits they need to pay back the amount full or something like that? and this is probably even a lease and not a purchase of land…

I don't think he's doing any charity with investment. He'll gain more than he invests. Instead of giving it to people like Adani, if the same industries are given to the poor, they'll develop more companies, msme will increase. This is a easy money making scheme. He promises investment of 3 Bill. Then charges the transmission company higher than normal charges. This inturn would be passed on to the consumer. 

Same method was done in AP. He bribed the ministers 250 million. He is under the scanner of US justice dep for bribes. He cant step into US territory without the risk of arrest. Lot of back channel negotiations are happening so he can get away with a fine. This will inturn give Americans a trump card, when negotating trade deal with India. After all, India cant give up on him for obvious reasons. The tamasha will unfold in the coming months.

i feel like the results in maharashtra are the most interesting in this election. the nda has dropped from 41 seats to 18 while INDIA went from 5 seats to 29. up there with UP in terms of most decisive swings in this election, and it's not getting nearly the same amount of attention

but i also love how both alliances are competing with their own shiv sena and nationalist congress parties. and that the NDA backed "official" parties are both losing pretty badly to the "breakaway" versions
